Luke 15:1-7
Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered,
“This man welcomes sinners and eats
with them.”
Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and
loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after
the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his
shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with
me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in
heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to
repent.”
The meaning of the story
God goes out of his way to find His lost sheep. He goes to such lengths that he sent his Son Jesus to rescue us and be our Good Shepherd. Once we are found and brought back into God’s flock (Church), there is a big celebration. It is a wonderful thing to be a part of God’s family!
What can we learn from this?
This story shows God’s compassion and love towards us. He wants to find us and save us. Though we have to make that choice for ourselves.
1Corinthians 13:4
Love is patient, Love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
When walking into this verse we can see how there are so many different ways in our walk and how we can show love. Simply as helping strangers to even sharing the gospel.
When we know how to love like christ., We can use his love to share him. Which I believe as you
walk like him. People will notice the way you live.
What is the lord trying to share?
When we walk in our own lives we are called to be kind and patient. When walking this out in our own lives we can show God’s love to other people. It may not always be perfect but we can strive to walk in the fullness of his word.
Khesed the Greek word for Love
Steadfast, loyal, merciful, kindness represent God’s love.
God’s love is a love that we can always rely on. His love never fails.
Something to think about:
How has the lord showed compassion to us in our own lives?
